Throughout my time at RNW, my responsibilities varied. As an associate rack inspection technician, I assisted on-site rack inspections, checking for structural deficiencies and ensuring that each location was up to code. When in office, I created inspection reports to provide clients information regarding the damages and inadequacies of their warehouses while recommending corrective measures. In addition, I assisted in RNW’s marketing campaigns, revamping their websites on WordPress as well as designing hardcopy sell-sheets for business promotion.
During my time on staff, I worked with campers of all ages from three-year-olds to 13-year-olds. Working with the younger kids requires a serious amount of energy and patience but despite the occasional homesickness, it was amazing watching my campers grow and challenge themselves every day. As for working with older kids, I was fortunate enough to be hired as a leadership trainer in my third year, working with 14-year-old boys for month-long sessions. During this time, our responsibility as trainers was to foster the leadership skills of eight participants through small and large group activities. This included cabin initiatives and stewardship, cabin placements and mentoring, as well as venturing out on eight-day canoe trips in the northern region of Algonquin Provincial Park.
While attending Queen’s University, I picked up a part-time job as an Athletics Facilities Staff at the school gym. Stationed at the equipment counter, our duties vary from providing customer service to internal departments, external groups, clients and members, as well as setting up and taking down facilities and events. We also support and run multiple services through the counter such as laundry, uniform preparation, equipment issuing and locker room control.
VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE
Queen’s for Ooch (QFO) is a club at Queen’s University that raises money and awareness for Camp Oochigeas, a privately-funded, volunteer-based kids’ cancer camp. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to go to camp, no matter the circumstances, therefore every dollar we raise is donated to this camp to help these children enjoy the outdoors and have fun again, two integral parts of being a child. As Vice President of QFO, my responsibilities involve organizing and directing our two flagship events that we hold each year, Queen’s Inside Ride and Queen’s for Ooch 5km Run. As well, I am responsible for the monitoring and evaluations of the committee member’s effectiveness and the club’s perception on Queen’s campus.
Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation (C2CACF) is a non-profit organization that raises money for the fight against childhood cancer. They focus on providing help and resources to the areas of greatest need, whether that be research, quality of life and/or family support. 100% of all donations provided to this organization are distributed to charities they support. My role in this organization as a general member is to help spread awareness and support local events when called upon. As well, in 2016, I introduced one of C2CACF popular events, the Inside Ride, to Queen’s University, where we went on to raise almost $10,000 in our first year.
