ABOUT ME

When I was younger, my parents would bring me downtown and I would look up in awe, wondering how these enormous buildings could stand tall so effortlessly. Add in my curiosity for math and science in high school, it was only right that I found myself studying civil engineering. Since then, I have come to deeply appreciate the natural and built environment and all the elements that contribute to keeping modern society sheltered, hydrated, nourished and moving.

However, the 21st century is providing civil engineers with many challenges. Increasing populations are creating resource scarcity as well as heavy traffic on roads. The changing climate is causing more extreme weather, flooding, forest fires, and more. The list goes on. Cities of tomorrow need solutions that can tackle these prominent issues. In the long term, my ideal career would involve working with cities and municipalities around the world, implementing sustainable practices and lessening their environmental impacts. This career combines my passion for civil engineering and traveling, while helping the environment and knowing that I am making the world a cleaner and safer place.

Throughout my life, I have been fortunate to experience the cultures and landscapes of more than 20 countries around the world. I have discovered some of the most breath-taking locations, all while meeting the most amazing people. However, climate change has the capacity to transform these places for the worse. In 2017, the water levels of Lake Ontario rose far above normal, while British Columbia experienced their worst forest fire season yet. The Caribbean was devastated by Hurricane Irma while Hurricane Harvey damaged Texas severely. Through my work as a civil engineer, I want to create positive change that would reduce these effects of climate change and create a more sustainable world.
